Eric D. Howell

Eric D. Howell is an award-winning international writer, director, photographer, author, and McKnight Artist Fellow—though not always in that order. Named by Shoot! Magazine as “one of the industry’s directors to watch,” his work has earned recognition from Fade In Magazine, Final Draft’s Big Break, and Stage 32. Three of his short films have been considered for Academy Award® nominations, and one now lives permanently in the collection of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (which, frankly, still blows his mind).
In 2022, Eric picked up an MTV VMA nomination for directing Evanescence’s anthemic “Use My Voice.” His multi-award-winning screenplay The Revolution of Cassandra, inspired by his documentary work in emerging global landscapes, has evolved into a 230-page graphic novel set to debut at San Diego Comic-Con 2025.
Eric’s feature debut, Voice from the Stone—starring Emilia Clarke—marked the start of his cinematic adventure. He’s now casting his next feature, Killing Roma, winner of Fade In Magazine’s Best Dramatic Screenplay Award. His recent television film Murder at the Lighthouse premiered on Lifetime in early 2025 to glowing reviews, and his latest short, The Seventh Turn, begins its festival run this fall.
